Why is Exercising important?
Has the thought of why exercising is essential popped into your mind? I know it has for me. I am 25 years old and have exercised for the past 15 years and for me it was just a daily run in the beginning stages of my exercising, but these daily runs turned into a decades-long journey. Before I jump into the research I have found behind why exercising is essential, I want to tell you where I am currently in my exercise journey. I work out six days a week, consisting of weight training and cardio four times weekly.
Now it is time to examine the research behind exercising, shall we? The following is mentioned in an article published by Harvard Health and reviewed by Howard E. Lewine, MD. “Exercising regularly, every day if possible, is the most important thing you can do for your health. In the short term, exercise helps to control appetite, boost mood, and improve sleep. In the long term, it reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, dementia, depression, and many cancers. (Harvard Health, 2024, para. 1)”. I have always been the person in the friend group who says that I am exercising for the present self and the future self. Furthermore, I firmly believe that taking care of our bodies, even just a simple daily walk, is healthier than sitting inside all day and being sedentary. In conclusion, I encourage you to find what works for you, whether after reading this, you go outside for a 15-minute walk, play tennis for an hour, or exercise for your present and future self.

How much water should you drink during your work out?
During our workouts drinking water is essential for staying hydrated. Now the question is, how much and when should we be drinking when we are working out?
Drinking water is key to a productive work out and here is what one physician from Mass General Brigham said. Sarah Eby, MD, PhD, “You should try to consume 4 to 8 ounces of fluid every 15 to 20 minutes during exercise. “If you are participating in moderate activity in a climate that isn’t very warm, you may be able to consume the lower end of that spectrum — 4 ounces every 20 minutes” (Eby, 2025).
When it comes to my time in the gym I drink at least 40oz of water especially on the days I do cardio. Furthermore the amount of water you consume in a day also depends on your gender. For adult men, 125 ounces are required throughout the day whereas adult females require 91 ounces of water in a single day (Eby, 2025).
What is my takeaway from this research? When it comes to the takeaway from this research I am a firm believer that drinking water is important to keep your body healthy and hydrated. I believe that there is often this saying that “water is boring” and while water may not have have a flavor to it, not being hydrated can effect other areas such as the discoloration of our urine. My saying is, drink water to keep your body happy.
